Not all mice are created equal...

  • Logitech Performance Mouse MX This mouse has a cordless laser engine with 'programmable' buttons. In other words, you can assign several keyboard shortcuts to the mouse - like Undo and Redo to the Forward and Back thumb buttons. It even has a plugin called uberOptions to expand the functionality of its SetPoint software.
    • One of the noteable advantages of going to the bother of installing uberOptions is that it will save your mouse button preferences when updating the mouseware. Follow the upgrading instructions on the uberOptions web site.
    • The batteries are built-in, no swapping with your own rechargeable batteries. Maintenance has meant dusting the laser lens and connection terminals in the recharger for continued good performance.
    • Shop around for best price and good rebate. Other multiple button mice are out there too.
  • 3Dconnexion has several navigators for the left hand. It lets you pan, orbit and zoom with one hand while using another SketchUp tool with a three-button mouse. SketchUp School has a video demonstrating some uses of the Space Navigator.
  • FPS Nav Alan Chatham - First Person Shooter Navigation. Use arrow keys, WASD and Numpad to navigate.
  • Maideinc developed several control apps for iPad and iPhone but since disappeared. YouTube channel. Check iTunes encase any of the apps come back.
    • CadRemoteMaide - iPhone / iPad app which will act as a navigator for SketchUp on Mac and Windows.
    • Maide Control 3D control input device on an iPad for SketchUp installed on either Windows or Mac - something like the 3Dconnexion navigators.
  • Pinnacle Game Profiler Joystick control option. Profile for SketchUp 2013 needs some adjusting for more recent versions of SketchUp, but reportedly this device works with Windows 10. Controller driver needs to be installed too.
  • Remotix VNC remote access tool for iPhone and iPad to touch/control your SketchUp model on Mac, Windows and Linux.
  • Wiimote Used for presentation - Alex Schreyer

Remap apps

  • AutoHotKey Remaps keyboard and mouse keys.
  • xpadder Reconfigures a gamepad.
  • GlovePIE Reconfigures joysticks, gamepad, 3Dconnexion navigators, Wiimotes, etc. to work in many programs. A SketchUp Group post by Patrick on what he accomplished with this app.

  • X-Mouse Button Control Remap mouse buttons. Free - Windows


Mac Stuff

  • ControllerMate Remap HID devices, like keyboard and mouse buttons.
  • FlyGesture Customize a Mac mouse to select SketchUp commands with mouse gestures.
  • Middle button click 'hack' Program to add extra function to the Magic Mouse. - Snow Leopard and possibly Leopard

  • MagicPrefs Free app to add extra function to Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and MacBook glass trackpad.

Add mouse wheel, left click, and right click buttons off to the side when using the mouse. That would be a nice addition and add more functionality to the mouse. Fix the mouse sync. When I move the mouse on my iPod, it is in sync with my laptop, but when I move the mouse on my laptop, it does not sync with the mouse on my iPod.

Trackpad gestures

For more information about these gestures, choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, then click Trackpad. You can turn a gesture off, change the type of gesture, and learn which gestures work with your Mac.

Trackpad gestures require a Magic Trackpad or built-in Multi-Touch trackpad. If your trackpad supports Force Touch, you can also Force click and get haptic feedback.

Secondary click (right-click)
Click or tap with two fingers.

Smart zoom
Double-tap with two fingers to zoom in and back out of a webpage or PDF.

Zoom in or out
Pinch with two fingers to zoom in or out.

Rotate
Move two fingers around each other to rotate a photo or other item.

Swipe between pages
Swipe left or right with two fingers to show the previous or next page.

Open Notification Center
Swipe left from the right edge with two fingers to show Notification Center.

Three finger drag
Use three fingers to drag items on your screen, then click or tap to drop. Turn on this feature in Accessibility preferences2.

Look up and data detectors
Tap with three fingers to look up a word or take actions with dates, addresses, phone numbers, and other data.

Show desktop
Spread your thumb and three fingers apart to show your desktop.


Launchpad
Pinch your thumb and three fingers together to display Launchpad.

Mission Control
Swipe up with four fingers3 to open Mission Control.

App Exposé
Swipe down with four fingers3 to see all windows of the app you're using.

Swipe between full-screen apps
Swipe left or right with four fingers3 to move between desktops and full-screen apps.

1. You can turn off trackpad scrolling in Accessibility preferences: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Accessibility. In the Mouse & Trackpad section, click Trackpad Options, then deselect the Scrolling checkbox.

2. Accessibility preferences also has options for one-finger dragging: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Accessibility. In the Mouse & Trackpad section, click Trackpad Options. Select “Enable dragging,” then choose one of the 'drag lock' options from the pop-up menu. Click the question-mark button to learn more about each option.

3. In some versions of macOS, this gesture uses three fingers instead of four.
